OC Fertility® + OC Biogenix® COVID-19 Policy Update

Important Update from the California Department of Public Health Regarding

Effective April 3, 2023

Masking Policy

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) ended the mask mandate for health care settings on April 3, 2023. Since that date, health care staff, patients, and visitors should consider wearing a mask based on their personal level of risk, the CDC COVID-19 Community Levels, and local policies.

To inform your individual masking decision and know when masking will still be required at OC Fertility® + OC Biogenix® , we're providing the information and FAQ here. Currently, Orange County levels are low, but levels can fluctuate, and future masking requirements may change.

The elimination of the mask mandate represents a significant and symbolic end to the pandemic. However, SARS-CoV-2 is here to stay and will join a long list of other endemic transmissible organisms that we learn to live with. Rapid identification of patients and appropriate personal protective equipment allows us to safely care for all who pass through our doors.

COVID-19 Pre-Operative Testing

OC Fertility® + OC Biogenix® have eliminated the need for COVID-19 testing before procedures at OC Biogenix. We are following all guidelines for COVID-19 testing as outlined by our affiliate facilities, Newport Beach Surgery Center (NBSC) and Hoag, for cases taking place at those facilities.

Mask Mandate Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Question: Can I choose to continue to wear a mask?
Answer: Yes!

That is an individual decision as long as the rates remain low in the Community. At OC Fertility® + OC Biogenix® , we will continue to follow CDPH guidelines regarding management of COVID-19 in healthcare settings.

Question: Who are high risk individuals?
Answer: High risk individuals are those who:
  • Are unvaccinated
  • Are immunocompromised (chemotherapy and/or immunomodulatory therapies)
  • Have certain disabilities
  • Have underlying health conditions (i.e. HIV, renal disease, diabetes, and heart disease)
  • Are at risk of severe illness of death (the elderly) if they are infected with COVID-19

Individuals who fall into one or more of these categoriess should consider taking extra precautions including wearing a mask that fits properly.

Question: Could masking requirements change back to mandatory face masking
Answer: Yes, based on community levels of transmission.

The CDC and CDPH both recommend masking for patient care areas if community transmission levels are high. Hoag will send out further guidelines if/when our community transmission level increases to high. Below is the CDPH masking guideline table: Further updates regarding COVID-19 protocols will be sent out as needed.
