The Impact of Infertility on Your Emotional Well-being

Infertility is a disease that impacts millions of people every year, and that number is on the rise and often comes with emotions and stresses that can negatively impact your day-to-day life.

Taking care of your mental health during your fertility journey is crucial. Struggling with infertility can often leave undue stress on the patient, which can also cause depression and anxiety.

Recent studies showed that approximately 50% of women dealing with infertility felt this was the most challenging time of their lives, while about 15% of men felt the same way.

Our patients at OC Fertility deserve the best of care, both physically and emotionally, and that's why our doctors and staff at OC Fertility are partnering with organizations in the community to address the diverse needs of our patients. One of these great organizations is Uniquely Knitted, an organization to help patients find the support and connection in the infertility community they are looking for.

Three Ways to Feel Connected and Less Stressed During Your Fertility Journey

Share Your Concerns with Your Doctor:

If you are feeling depressed, anxious, or even angry during your fertility treatment, let your Reproductive Endocrinologist know. They can work closely with you to determine your concerns and if they will impact your treatment, and they can offer some great resources to reduce some of the emotions and stress you are feeling.

Stay Connected with Uniquely Knitted: Reach out to Uniquely Knitted (Oc Fertility patients receive a special offer - ask about it at the front desk) to learn more about their supportive and educational programs and how they will help you find others that know exactly how you are feeling.

Consider Seeking a Professional:

Seeking a therapist or doctor who can prescribe an antidepressant may be an option if you struggle with your mental health. You should not have to go through this journey alone; seeking help from a professional can help guide you as you make decisions during this emotional process. Our team is ready to collaborate on your care to ensure you feel supported.

Your Mental Health is Important

From the moment an individual or couple receives a diagnosis of infertility, stress and tough emotions can kick in. It’s never too early or late to ask for help or support along your journey.

Research has shown that women with infertility have nearly the same anxiety and depression levels as women with cancer, heart disease, and HIV. The challenges can be even more significant as there is still some stigma surrounding infertility. This stigma often leaves patients feeling that they are to blame for their diagnosis, and feelings of shame can prevent them from reaching out for support.

At OC Fertility, we support a diverse and inclusive environment for both our staff and patients, and we are always here to answer your questions and support you during your fertility treatment, and do our best to offer each patient the level of care they deserve.
